I don’t know about you, but for me it feels like 2025 is flying by! We’re in March already - the time when most of us Michiganders are ready to feel some warmth. Oh, how we long to see new colorful blooms and to hear the sounds of new life.

Lucky for us, it’s just around the corner. There is light at the end of the tunnel! As much as I look forward to the next season, I always find that March is a good time to evaluate how my new year is going. Am I living up to my values? Am I being intentional with my time? How am I tracking with what I set in the new year?

I recently heard that by the second Friday of January, most people give up on their New Year’s resolutions. That sounds about right being that most of us set lofty goals without setting our lives up to maintain those big aspirations. A fad I noticed as people were setting their goals and intentions for the new year was identifying their “In’s and Out’s.”

I hopped on this bandwagon and thought of a couple for myself. These are helping me navigate this cold and dreary season as I look forward to what’s ahead:

Out - Being too busy not to notice my daily blessings

In - Noticing the seemingly small things that build my life.

HOW: Intentionally write down 5 things a day. This makes me be on the lookout for all the good I’m surrounded with.

Out - Comparison

In - Honoring my stage of life.

HOW: Be realistic when setting goals. Be intentional about spending time with people who give me life. Incorporate practices that make me feel healthy, and create space for adventure, fun, and meaningful work. Don’t beat myself up when I find myself off course, but gently guide myself back.

What are a few things that you like to do during this time? One thing that comforts me in my home when the days are long is lighting candles and watching a good show or reading a good book.

What are you doing to stay on track with your 2025 intentions? Do you want to join me in evaluating our 2025 up to this point? Together, we can re-evaluate our schedules, take inventory of your “In’s and Out’s,” and cherish our special relationships.
