    9.2. Any disputes arising from or related to these T&Cs shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Michigan.

    10.1. We reserve the right to modify or update these T&Cs at any time, without prior notice.
    10.2. Any changes will be effective immediately upon posting of the revised T&Cs. Your continued reading or use of our Email Correspondence following any such changes shall constitute your acceptance of the revised T&Cs.

Community Connection Magazine – Contest & Giveaway Terms and Conditions

Effective Date: 3/24/25

Overview: These Terms and Conditions apply to all sweepstakes-style contests and giveaways (“Promotions”) conducted by Community Connection Magazine (“Sponsor”). Each issue of Community Connection Magazine features a Promotion with a random prize drawing. By entering any Promotion, entrants agree to these official rules and all decisions of the Sponsor, which are final and binding in all matters related to the Promotion. All Promotions are subject to applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and are void where prohibited​​

1. Eligibility

  • Residency: Promotions are open only to legal residents of Michigan who meet the age requirement​

  • Entries from outside Michigan are not eligible (void outside Michigan and where prohibited by law).

  • Age: Entrants must be 18 years of age or older at the time of entry​

  • Proof of age and identity may be required before awarding any prize.

  • Ineligible Parties: Employees, officers, and representatives of Community Connection Magazine, its parent company, affiliates, advertising/promotional agencies, and the immediate family members or household members of each are not eligible to enter or win.

2. Entry Conditions & Frequency

  • No Purchase Necessary: No purchase, payment, or fee is required to enter or win any Promotion​

  • Making a purchase will not increase your chances of winning. Entry into our sweepstakes is free to ensure a fair chance for all participants, as required by law​

  • Method of Entry: Entry methods will be announced in each issue of the magazine or on the Promotion’s webpage. Follow the instructions provided (such as filling out an entry form online or mailing in a form) to submit your entry. Entries will not require visiting a store or attending a sales presentation; no in-person action at a retail location is required to participate​

  • Entry Limit: Unless otherwise stated, there is a limit of one (1) entry per person per contest (per issue). Duplicate entries or excessive entries by the same person in a single Promotion may be disqualified. Each issue’s Promotion is a separate contest; eligible individuals may enter each new Promotion when it opens.

  • Entry Period: Each Promotion will have a specific entry period (opening and closing date/time) indicated in the magazine or on the website. Entries must be received within the stated entry period to be eligible. Late entries will be disqualified. The Sponsor’s computer/server is the official time-keeping device for online entry submissions.

3. Winner Selection

  • Random Drawing: Winners will be selected by random drawing from all eligible entries received for that issue’s Promotion. The drawing will be conducted using a neutral randomizer tool or software to ensure fairness and impartiality​

  • All entrants have an equal chance of winning, and no element of skill or purchase influences the outcome​

  • Odds of Winning: The odds of winning any Promotion depend on the total number of eligible entries received for that drawing. For example, if 500 entries are received, each entry has a 1 in 500 chance of winning.

  • Winner Validation: Potential winners are subject to eligibility verification. The Sponsor may require the potential winner to sign an affidavit of eligibility, liability/publicity release (where permitted), and/or provide proof of Michigan residency and age before confirming them as the official winner. Failure to meet eligibility criteria or to sign required documents may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner.

4. Winner Notification

  • Notification Method: The Sponsor will attempt to contact winners via the phone number or email address provided at entry. Winners will be notified promptly after the random drawing, typically within a few days of the contest closing.

  • Response Requirements: Each potential winner must respond to the winner notification (e.g., by email or phone call confirmation) within 5 business days or the time frame specified in the notification. If a notified winner does not respond in time, cannot be reached, or is found ineligible, the Sponsor reserves the right to declare their prize forfeited and select an alternate winner by random drawing from the remaining eligible entries.

  • Prize Delivery: Once confirmed, winners will receive details on how to claim their prize (e.g., picking up the prize at the magazine’s office or receiving it by mail). Prizes may require signature upon delivery. The Sponsor will coordinate with winners to ensure prizes are delivered within a reasonable time frame.

5. Prizes

  • Prize Details: Each Promotion’s prize(s) will be described in the corresponding issue of the magazine and/or on the contest announcement page (e.g., the type of prize, approximate retail value, and number of winners). Prizes are not transferable or exchangeable for cash, except at the Sponsor’s sole discretion. The Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value if the advertised prize becomes unavailable for any reason.

  • Acceptance: By accepting a prize, winners agree that the prize is awarded “as is” and without any warranty, guarantee, or representation by the Sponsor, express or implied, in fact or in law, other than what may be provided by the prize manufacturer. The Sponsor is not responsible for any damage or injury resulting from use of the prize.

  • Taxes: Any and all taxes or fees on prizes are the sole responsibility of the winner. Winners are responsible for reporting and paying any applicable federal, state, and local taxes (if any) on their prize​

  • If a prize is valued at $600 or more, the winner must provide any necessary tax information (such as a Social Security Number) and the Sponsor will issue an IRS Form 1099 to the winner for the value of the prize, as required by law​

  • Winners should consult their tax advisor regarding potential tax implications.

  • Unclaimed Prizes: If a prize is unclaimed, unredeemed, or forfeited for any reason (e.g., a winner fails to respond or meet eligibility requirements), the Sponsor may, at its discretion, award the prize to an alternate winner or not award the prize. The Sponsor has no obligation to make multiple alternate attempts if a prize remains unclaimed after the first alternate winner is offered.

6. Personal Information & Privacy

  • Data Collection: By entering a Promotion, you will be required to provide certain personal information (such as your name, email address, phone number, and mailing address). This information is collected by Community Connection Magazine for the purposes of administering the contest, verifying eligibility, contacting winners, and prize fulfillment.

  • Privacy Protection: The personal data of entrants will be handled in compliance with applicable data privacy and protection laws and regulations. Community Connection Magazine is committed to protecting your privacy and will use your personal information solely for contest administration purposes or as otherwise disclosed at the time of entry. Entrant information will not be sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes without your consent.

  • Privacy Policy: All personal information is subject to the Sponsor’s general Privacy Policy (available on our website), which is incorporated herein by reference. By entering, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the terms of our Privacy Policy. We implement reasonable security measures to protect personal data and will not retain personal information longer than necessary for the purposes of the Promotion or as required by law.

  • Data Rights: In accordance with relevant privacy laws, entrants may have certain rights to access, correct, or request deletion of personal information held by the Sponsor. Please refer to the Privacy Policy for more information on how to exercise these rights or contact us at [contact information] for assistance.

7. Publicity & Winner’s Consent

  • Winner Announcement: With a winner’s permission, the Sponsor may announce the winner’s first name, last initial, and/or city (e.g., “Jane D. from Grand Rapids”) in the magazine or on our website and social media to congratulate the winner and promote the contest. However, the winner’s full name, photograph, or likeness will not be used in any promotional materials without the winner’s explicit consent.

  • Consent to Use Likeness: The Sponsor may request that a winner grant permission to use their name, likeness (including profile photo or image), and prize information for promotional purposes – for example, posting a photo of the winner with their prize on our website or in the magazine. Such use will only occur with the winner’s written consent, in compliance with Michigan’s laws on rights of publicity and privacy. If a winner prefers not to participate in publicity, that choice will be respected and will not affect their eligibility to receive the prize.

  • No Further Compensation: If a winner agrees to allow use of their name or likeness, the winner will not receive any additional compensation for such use. Any promotional use with consent is solely for the benefit of Community Connection Magazine’s publicity of the Promotion. Winners’ personal stories or testimonials will not be shared publicly without separate and explicit agreement.

8. General Terms and Conditions

  • Compliance with Laws: All Promotions are conducted in accordance with these official rules and in compliance with Michigan law, including consumer protection statutes that require clear rules and fair practices​

  • The Sponsor will provide clear and accurate information about each contest’s rules, eligibility, and prize odds to participants​ and will not engage in any deceptive or misleading practices. Promotions are also governed by any applicable federal regulations and laws.

  • Void Where Prohibited: Promotions are void outside of Michigan and void where prohibited by law​

  • It is the entrant’s responsibility to ensure that participation is lawful in their jurisdiction. The Sponsor may disqualify any entry if it determines the contest is prohibited by law in the entrant’s locality.

  • No Consideration: Participation in the Promotion is free. No purchase, donation, or other consideration (such as payment or mandatory attendance at a presentation) is required to enter or win​

  • Any entry mechanism provided will be equally available to all eligible entrants without charge, ensuring the Promotion is a legal sweepstakes and not an illegal lottery.

  • False or Inaccurate Information: Entrants must provide truthful information when entering. The Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any entrant who provides false information, fails to comply with the entry instructions, or otherwise violates these Terms and Conditions. Entries that are incomplete, illegible, fraudulent, or inappropriate will be void.

  • Technical Issues: The Sponsor is not responsible for technical failures or difficulties of any kind, including but not limited to malfunctions, interruptions, or disconnections in phone lines, internet connectivity, hardware, or software that may affect the entry process or the ability of the Sponsor to notify winners. Similarly, the Sponsor is not responsible for any late, lost, misrouted, garbled, or distorted entries or communications, or for any errors in the announcement of the prize or these Terms due to technical or human error.

  • Right to Modify or Cancel: Community Connection Magazine reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend any Promotion if it becomes compromised by fraud, technical malfunction, or any other factor beyond the Sponsor’s reasonable control that interferes with the proper conduct of the Promotion. The Sponsor may also make minor amendments to these Terms and Conditions or Promotion details (such as adjusting deadlines) as needed to ensure fairness or legal compliance, subject to providing notice on the contest webpage or in the magazine. If a Promotion is terminated prematurely, the Sponsor may (at its discretion) select a winner from all eligible entries received up to the time of cancellation.

  • Disqualification: The Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any individual found to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Promotion, or found to be acting in violation of these Terms and Conditions or in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner. Any attempt to deliberately damage the website or undermine the legitimate operation of the contest may be a violation of criminal and civil laws, and the Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages and other remedies (including attorneys’ fees) from any such offender to the fullest extent permitted by law.

  • Release of Liability: By participating in a Promotion, entrants agree to release, discharge, and hold harmless Community Connection Magazine, its parent company, affiliates, advertising and promotion agencies, and all of their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents (the “Released Parties”) from any and all liability, losses, injuries, or damages of any kind arising out of or in connection with participation in the contest or the acceptance, possession, or use/misuse of any prize. The Released Parties are not liable for any claims, actions, or proceedings of any kind in connection with the Promotion or prize, including but not limited to claims related to personal injury, death, property damage, or loss that may occur, except to the extent that such liability cannot be excluded by law. Entrants participate at their own risk.

  • Limitation of Liability: Under no circumstances will the Sponsor’s liability exceed the value of the prize at issue. Entrants hereby waive the right to claim any attorneys’ fees or any damages whatsoever beyond actual out-of-pocket costs (i.e., costs associated with entering the Promotion), and entrants further waive all rights to have damages multiplied or increased. The Sponsor makes no warranty, representation, or guarantee of any kind (other than those expressly included in the prize description).

9. Governing Law & Disputes

  • Governing Law: All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation, and enforceability of these Terms and Conditions, or the rights and obligations of entrants and the Sponsor in connection with the Promotion, shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Michigan, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules. Michigan state law applicable to sweepstakes and consumer promotions will prevail​

  • Jurisdiction: By entering, entrants agree that any disputes, claims, or causes of action arising out of or relating to this Promotion or any prize awarded shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Michigan. Entrants consent to the jurisdiction and venue of such courts and waive any objection that such venue is inconvenient or improper.

  • No Class Actions: Entrants agree that any and all disputes shall be resolved individually, not as part of any class or representative action. Entrants further agree that they may bring claims only in their individual capacity and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class, collective, or representative proceeding.

  • Remedies: In the event of any dispute concerning the Promotion, an entrant’s sole remedy shall be an action at law for the recovery of actual direct damages (if any), and in no event will the entrant be entitled to injunctive or equitable relief or any form of punitive or consequential damages.

10. Sponsor and Winner Information

  • Sponsor: The Sponsor of these Promotions is Community Connection Magazine, [Sponsor’s Address], Michigan. Any questions or correspondence regarding the contest should be directed to Community Connection Magazine at [contact information].

  • Winners List: For a list of winners of a specific contest (name and city), you may send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the Sponsor at the address above, Attn: Contest Winners. Requests must be received within 60 days after the end of the relevant contest. Winner information will be provided only with the winner’s consent in accordance with Section 7 (Publicity & Winner’s Consent).

Disclaimer: By entering any Community Connection Magazine Promotion, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and Conditions. The Sponsor reserves the right to update or modify these official rules from time to time, and any changes will be effective upon posting on the Sponsor’s website. It is the entrant’s responsibility to review the Terms and Conditions for any updates prior to participation. These Terms and Conditions are intended to be compliant with all applicable Michigan laws and regulations governing sweepstakes, including consumer protection and privacy requirements, and shall be interpreted to the fullest extent to ensure such compliance. If any provision of these Terms is found unlawful or unenforceable, that provision shall be deemed severable and shall not affect the validity of the remaining provisions.
